సుందరకాండ.
అథ చతుష్షష్టితమస్సర్గః||

సుగ్రీవేణేవ ముక్తస్తు హృష్టో దధిముఖః కపిః|
రాఘవం లక్ష్మణం చైవ సుగ్రీవం చాఽభ్యవాదయత్||1||
స ప్రణమ్య చ సుగ్రీవం రాఘవౌ చ మహాబలౌ|
వానరైస్సహితైః శూరైః దివమేవోత్పపాత హ||2||

స|| హృష్ఠః సుగ్రీవేణ ఏవం ఉక్తః తు దధిముఖః రాఘవం లక్ష్మణం చ సుగ్రీవం అభ్యవాదయత్||సః మహాబలౌ రాఘవౌ సుగ్రీవం చ ప్రణమ్య శూరైః వానరైః సహితః దివమేవ ఉత్పపాత||

Thus told by pleased Sugriva, Dadhimukha bowed to Raghava, Lakshmana and Sugriva. He offered salutations to Raghava and Lakshmana as well as Sugriva and flew into the sky along with his followers.

స యథైవాఽగతః పూర్వం తథైవ త్వరితం గతః|
నిపత్య గగనాద్భూమౌ తద్వనం ప్రవివేశ హ||3|
స ప్రవిష్టో మధువనం దదర్శ హరియూథపాన్|
విమదాన్ ఉత్థితాన్ సర్వాన్ మేహమానాన్ మధూదకమ్||4||

స||సః పూర్వం యథా ఆగతః తథైవ త్వరితం గతః గగనాత్ భూమౌ నిపత్య తత్ వనం ప్రవివేశ హ|| సః మధువనం ప్రవిష్టః విమదాన్ మధూదకం మేహమానాన్ ఉత్థితాన్ సర్వాన్ హరియూథపాన్ దదర్శ||

Travelling the same path which he followed before, he went quickly and landed on the ground and entered that grove. He entered the Madhavaram and saw the Vanaras free from intoxication of honey, having passed water.

స తానుపాగమద్వీరో బద్ద్వా కరపుటాంజలిమ్|
ఉవాచ వచనం శ్ల‍‍క్ష్‍ణ మిదం హృష్టవదంగదమ్||5||
సౌమ్యరోషో న కర్తవ్యో యదేతత్పరివారితం|
అజ్ఞానాద్రక్షిభిః క్రోధాత్ భవంతః ప్రతిషేధితాః||6||

స|| సః ఉపాగమత్ వీరః అంగదం కరపుటాంజలిమ్ బద్ధ్వా ఇదం శ్ల‍క్ష‍ణం వచనం ఉవాచ|సౌమ్య భవన్తః రోషః న కర్తవ్యః | ఏతత్ యత్ పరివారితం రక్షిభిః అజ్ఞానాత్ క్రోధాత్ ప్రతిషేధితాః |

Having returned, he said with folded hands the following conciliatory words. ' Oh Prince of mild disposition ! You do not be harsh. Your companions were restrained out of our ignorance and anger '.

యువరాజః త్వమీశశ్చ వనస్యాస్య మహాబలః|
మౌర్ఖాత్ పూర్వం కృతో దోషః తం భవాన్ క్షంతుమర్హతి||7||
అఖ్యాతం హి మయా గత్వా పితృవ్యస్య తవానఘ|
ఇహోపయాతం సర్వేషాం ఏతేషాం వనచారిణామ్||8||
స త్వ దాగమనం శ్రుత్వా సహైభిర్హరియూధపైః|
ప్రహృష్టో నతు రుష్టోఽసౌ వనం శ్రుత్వా ప్రధర్షితమ్||9||
ప్రహృష్టో మాం పితృవ్యస్తే సుగ్రీవో వానరేశ్వరః|
శీఘ్రం ప్రేషయ సర్వాం తాన్ ఇతి హోవాచ పార్థివః||10||

స|| మహాబలః త్వం యువరాజః అస్య వనస్య ఈశశ్చ | మౌర్ఖాత్ పూర్వం కృతం దోషః భవాన్ క్షంతుం అర్హతి||అనఘా ! మయా గత్వా తవ పితృవ్యస్య సర్వేషాం ఏతేషాం వనచారిణం ఇహ ఉపాయాతం అఖ్యాతమ్ హి ||సః త్వత్ ఆగమనం శ్రుత్వా ప్రహృష్టః | తే పితృవ్యః వానరేశ్వరః సుగ్రీవః అసౌ వనం ప్రధర్షితం శ్రుత్వా న తు రుష్టః|| తాన్ సర్వాం శీఘ్రం ప్రేషయ ఇతి పార్థివం మాం ఉవాచ||

' Oh Mighty one ! You are the prince and the Lord of this grove. You can excuse this mistake done in foolishness. Oh Sinless one ! I went and told the elder brother of your father about the arrival of the Vanaras. He having heard about your arrival was pleased. The elder brother of your father, Sugriva hearing about the destruction of the grove he was not angry. The king told me " Send all of them here quickly."

శ్రుత్వా దధిముఖస్యేదం వచనం శ్ల‌క్ష‍ణమఙ్గదః|
అబ్రవీత్తాన్ హరిశ్రేష్ఠో వాక్యం వాక్య విశారదః||11||
శంకేశ్రుతోఽయం వృత్తాంతో రామేణ హరియుథపాః|
తత్ క్షణం నేహ న స్థ్సాతుం కృతే కార్యే పరంతపాః||12||

స|| దధిముఖస్య ఇదం శ్లక్షణం వచనం శ్రుత్వా అంగదః వాక్య విశారదః హరిశ్రేష్టః తాన్ అబ్రవీత్ ||పరంతపాః హరియూథపాః అయం వృత్తాంతః రామేణ శ్రుతః | శంకే తత్ కార్యే కృతే ఇహ స్థాతుం నః న క్షమమ్||

Hearing those conciliatory words of Dadhimukha , Angada, the best of Vanaras, who is expert in use of words, spoke to them, the Vanaras. ' Oh Scorchers of enemies !, Elephants among the Vanaras ! This information has already been heard by Rama. I think that with the task having been accomplished it is not proper for us to stay here'.

పీత్వా మధు యథాకామం విశ్రాంతా వనచారిణః|
కిం శేషం గమనం తత్ర సుగ్రీవో యత్ర మే గురుః||13||
సర్వే యథా మాం వక్ష్యంతే సమేత్య హరియూథపాః|
తథాఽస్మి కర్తా కర్తవ్యే భవద్భిః పరవానహమ్||14||
నాజ్ఞాపయితు మీశోఽహం యువరాజోఽస్మి యద్యపి|
అయుక్తం కృతకర్మాణో యూయం ధర్షయితుం మయా||15||

స||వనచారిణః యథాకామం మధు పీత్వా విశ్రాన్తాః కిం శేషం | మే గురు సుగ్రీవః యత్ర తత్ర గమనమ్||సర్వే హరియూథపః సమేత్య మామ్ యథా వక్ష్యన్తి తథా కర్తా అస్మి కర్తవ్యే అహం భవద్భిః పరవాన్||అహం యువరాజః అస్మి | యద్యపి కృతకర్మానః ఆజ్ఞాపయితుం న ఈశః | యుయం మయా ధర్షయితుం అయుక్తం||

Oh Forest dwellers! Having drunk honey and rested what is left ? We go to the place where our leader Sugriva is. I will follow whatever you all together tell me to do as our duty. I am the prince. I am not the lord to order you, who have accomplished the task. My ordering you is not proper.

బ్రువతశ్చాంగదస్యైవం శ్రుత్వా వచనమవ్యయమ్|
ప్రహృష్టో మనసో వాక్యమిదమూచుర్వనౌకసః||16||
ఏవం వక్ష్యతి కో రాజన్ ప్రభుః సన్ వానరర్షభ|
ఐశ్వర్యమదమత్తో హి సర్వోఽహమితి మన్యతే||17||

స|| వనౌకసః ఏవం బ్రువతః అంగదస్య ఏవం అవ్యయం వచనం శ్రుత్వా , ప్రహృష్ట మనసః వాక్యం ఇదం ఊచుః|| వానరరర్షభ రాజన్ ఏవం కః వక్ష్యతి | ప్రభుః ఇశ్వర్య మదమత్తో హి సర్వః అహం ఇతి మన్యతే |

Hearing those words of Angada, the forest dwellers , delighted at being told thus, said the following. ' Oh Bull among the Vanaras ! Lord ! Who will say like this. Arrogant on account of prosperity kings think I am everything'.

తవ చేదం సుసదృశం వాక్యం నాన్యస్య కస్యచిత్|
సన్నతిర్హి తవాఖ్యాతి భవిష్యత్ శుభయోగ్యతామ్||18||
సర్వే వయమపి ప్రాప్తాః తత్ర గంతుం కృతక్షణాః|
స యత్ర హరివీరాణాం సుగ్రీవః పతిరవ్యయః||19||

స|| ఇదం వాక్యం సుసదృశం అన్యస్య కస్యచిత్ న | తవ సన్నతిః భవిష్యత్ శుభ యోగ్యతామ్ ఆఖ్యాతి ||సర్వే వయం అపి ప్రాప్తాః యత్ర హరవీరాణాం అవ్యయః పతిః సుగ్రీవః తత్ర గంతుం కృతక్షణాః ||

'These words are proper, not otherwise. Your humbleness speaks for good for bright future. We are already any moment to go to where our immortal Lord Sugriva is'.

త్వయా హ్యనుక్తైః హరిభిర్నైవ శక్యం పదాత్పదమ్|
క్వచిత్ గంతుం హరిశ్రేష్ఠ బ్రూమః సత్యమిదం తు తే||20||
ఏవం తు వదతామ్ శేషాం అఙ్గదః ప్రత్యువాచ హ|
బాఢం గచ్చామ ఇత్యుక్తా ఖం ఉత్పేతుర్మహాబలాః||21||

స|| హరిశ్రేష్ఠ త్వయా అనుక్తైః హరిభిః పదాత్ పదం క్వచిత్ గన్తుం న శక్యం | సత్యం ఇదం తే బ్రూమః||తేషామ్ ఇదం వదతాం అంగదః బాడం గచ్ఛామ (ఇతి) ప్రత్యువాచ హ| ఇతి ఉక్త్వా మహాబలాః ఖం ఉత్పేతుః||

'Oh Best of Vanaras ! Without your saying a word, it is not possible for the Vanaras to move one step. This is true. We are telling you '. When they said as above, Angada said 'very good, let us go'. Having said this the mighty ones flew into the sky.

ఉత్పతంతమనూత్పేతుః సర్వే తే హరియూథపాః|
కృత్వాకాశం నిరాకాశం యంత్రోత్ క్షిప్తా ఇవాచలాః||22||
తేఽమ్బరం సహసోత్పత్య వేగవంతః ప్లవఙ్గమాః|
నినదంతో మహానాదం ఘనా వాతేరితా యథా||23||

స||సర్వే తే హరియూథపాః యన్త్రోక్షిప్తాః అచలాః ఇవ ఆకాశం నిరాకాశం కృత్వా ఉత్పతంతం అనూత్పేతుః||వేగవన్తః తే ప్లవంగమః అంబరం ఉత్పత్య వాతేరితా ఘనాః ఇవ మహానాదం నినదన్తః ||

All the Vanaras sprang into the sky as though there was no sky, like the stones scattered by machines from the mountains rise up. Having risen to the sky , the speedy fliers roared like the clouds driven by the wind.

అఙ్గదే సమనుప్రాప్తే సుగ్రీవో వానరాధిపః|
ఉవాచ శోకోపహతం రామం కమలలోచనమ్||24||
సమాశ్వసిహి భద్రం తే దృష్టా దేవీ న సంశయః|
నాగంతు మిహ శక్యం తైః అతీతే సమయే హి నః||25||

స||అంగదః అనుప్రాప్తే వానరాధిపః సుగ్రీవః శోకోపహతం కమలలోచనం ఉవాచ||సమాశ్వసిహి | తే భద్రం | దేవీ దృష్టా న సంశయః | తైః సమయే అతీతే ఇహ నః ఆగన్తుం న శక్యం ||

Before the arrival of Angada, the king of Vanaras, Sugriva told the lotus eyed lord stricken with grief. 'Trust me. Be blessed. The divine lady has been seen, without any doubt. With the time limit having been crossed they cannot be coming here otherwise '.

న మత్సకాశ మాగచ్ఛేత్ కృత్యే హి వినిపాతితే|
యువరాజో మహాబాహుః ప్లవతాం ప్రవరోఽఙ్గదః||26||
యద్యప్యకృతకృత్యానాం ఈదృశః స్యాదుపక్రమః|
భవేత్ స దీనవదనో భ్రాంత విప్లుతమానసః||27||

స|| యువరాజః మహాబాహుః ప్లవతాం ప్రవరః అంగదః కృత్యే వినిపాతితే మత్సకాసం న ఆగచ్ఛేత్||అకృతకృత్యానాం ఉపక్రమః ఈదృశః యద్యపి స్యాత్ సః దీనవదనః భ్రాన్తవిప్లుతమానసః భవేత్||

' The prince Angada , who is with strong arms , who is best among the fliers, without completing the task cannot be coming near me. Those who have completed their task will not be like this. They will be with piteous face , with unsteady mind'.

పితృపైతామహం చైతత్ పూర్వకైరభిరక్షితమ్|
న మే మధువనం హన్యాదహృష్టః ప్లవగేశ్వరః||28||
కౌసల్యా సుప్రజా రామ సమాశ్వసి హి సువ్రత|

స|| ప్లవగేశ్వరః అహృష్టః పితృపైతామహం పూర్వకైః అభిరక్షితం మే మధువనం న హన్యాత్ | కౌసల్యా సుప్రజాః సువ్రత రామ సమాశ్వసిహి||

'The best of fliers if he is not happy, he would not have destroyed the Madhavaram which is protected from my father's and grandfather's time'.

దృష్టా దేవీ న సందేహో న చాన్యేన హనూమతా||29||
న హ్యన్యః కర్మణో హేతుః సాధనేఽస్య హనూమతః|
హనూమతి హి సిద్ధిశ్చ మతిశ్చ మతిసత్తమ||30||
వ్యవసాయశ్చ వీర్యం చ సూర్యే తేజ ఇవ ద్రువమ్|
జాంబవాన్యత్ర నేతాస్యాదంగదశ్చ బలేశ్వరః||31||
హనుమాంశ్చాప్యథిష్ఠాతా న తస్య గతిరన్యథా|
మాభూశ్చింతా సమాయుక్తః సంప్రత్యమితవిక్రమః||32||

స|| దేవీ దృష్టా | న సందేహః| న చ అన్యేన | హనుమతా | అస్య కర్మణః సాధనే హేతుః హనూమతః|| మతిసత్తమ హనూమతి సూర్యేః తేజః ఇవ సిద్ధిశ్చ మతిశ్చ వ్యవసాయశ్చ వీర్యం చ ధృవం||యత్ర నేతా జాంబవాన్ స్యాత్ మహాబలః అంగదశ్చ హనుమాంశ్చ అధిష్ఠతా తస్య గతిః అన్యథా ( న భవేత్)||అమితవిక్రమః సంప్రతి చిన్తా సమాయుక్తః మాభూః|

'The divine lady has been seen by Hanuman. No others. The reason for the achievement of this task is Hanuman. The intelligent Hanuman with brilliance of the Sun, certainly has the intelligence, the effort , and the valor and the capacity to succeed. Where Jambavan is the leader and Hanuman and Angada are the guiding forces, the result will not be otherwise. You are extremely valiant. This is not the time to be worried'.

తతః కిలకిలాశబ్దం శుశ్రావాసన్నమంబరే|
హనుమత్కర్మ దృప్తానాం నర్దతాం కాననౌకసామ్||33||
కిష్కింధాముపయాతానాం సిద్ధిం కథయతా మివ|

స||తతః హనుమత్కర్మ దృస్తానాం నార్ధతామ్ సిద్ధిం కథయతాం ఇవ కిష్కింధాం ఉపాయాతానాం కాననౌకసాం అంబరే ఆసన్నం కిలకిలాశబ్దం శుశ్రావ||

At that time the forest dwellers arrived at Kishkindha roaring, being proud of Hanuman's success having successfully completed their task, and their chattering noise could be heard.

తతః శ్రుత్వా నినాదం తం కపీనాం కపిసత్తమః||34||
అయతాంచితలాంగూలః సోఽభవద్దృష్టమానసః|
అజగ్ముస్తేఽపి హరయో రామదర్శనకాంక్షిణః||35||
అఙ్గదం పురతః కృత్వా హనూమంతం చ వానరమ్|

స|| తతః స కపిసత్తమః కపీనామ్ తం నినాదం శ్రుత్వా అయతాంచిత లాంగూలః హృష్టమానసః అభవత్||తే హరయః కపిః అంగదం వానరం హనూమంతం పురతః కృత్వా రామదర్శనకాంక్షిణః ఆజగ్ముః||

Then that chief of Vanaras hearing the roar of the Vanaras was extremely happy. He kept raising and shaking his long tail. The Vanaras with Angada and Hanuman in the front landed, desirous of seeing Rama.

తే అఙ్గద ప్రముఖావీరాః ప్రహృష్టాశ్చ ముదాన్వితః||36||
నిపేతుర్హరిరాజస్య సమీపే రాఘవస్య చ|
హనుమాంశ్చ మహాబాహుః ప్రణమ్య శిరసా తతః||37||
నియతామక్షతాం దేవీం రాఘవాయ న్యవేదయత్|

స|| అంగదప్రముఖాః తే వీరాః ప్రహృష్టశ్చ ముదా అన్వితాః హరిరాజస్య రాఘవస్య చ సమీపే నిపేతుః ||తతః మహాబాహుః హనుమాన్ ప్రణమ్య దేవీం నియతాం అక్షతాం రాఘవాయ న్యవేదయత్||

అంగదప్రముఖులు వీరులు సంతోషముతో వానరాధిపతి కి రాఘవునకు సమీపములో దిగిరి. అప్పుడు మహాబాహువులు కల హనుమంతుడు నమస్కరించి " దేవి నియమబద్ధురాలై క్షేమముగా ఉన్నది" అని రాఘవునకు నివేదించెను.

దృష్టా దేవీతి హనుమద్వదనాత్ అమృతోపమం|
ఆకర్ణ్య వచనం రామో హర్షంఆప సలక్ష్మణః||38||
నిశ్చితార్థః తతః తస్మిన్ సుగ్రీవః పవనాత్మజే||
లక్ష్మణః ప్రీతిమాన్ ప్రీతం బహుమనాదవైక్షత|

స|| సలక్ష్మణః రామః హనుమత్ వదనాత్ అమృతోపపం దృష్టా దేవీ ఇతి వచనం ఆకర్ణ్య హర్షం ఆప||తతః లక్ష్మణః తస్మిన్ పవనాత్మజే నిశ్చితార్థం ప్రీతం సుగ్రీవం బహుమానాత్ అవైక్షత||

లక్ష్మణునితో కూడిన రాముడు హనుమంతుని వదనమునుండి అమృతము తో సమానమైన "సీతను చూచితిమి " అన్న మాటలను విని ఆనంద భరితులైరి. అప్పుడు లక్ష్మణుడు ఆ పవనాత్మజునిపై నమ్మకము చూపిన సుగ్రీవుని అతి గౌరవముతో చూచెను.

ప్రీత్యా రమమాణోఽథ రాఘవః పరవీరహ||
బహుమానేన మహతా హనుమంత మవైక్షతా||39||

స|| పరవీరహ రాఘవః రమమాణః ఉపేతః మహతా బహుమానేన హనుమన్తం అవైక్షత||

The slayer of heroic enemies Raghava entered a state of delight and glanced at Hanuman with unbounded affection.

ఇత్యార్షే శ్రీమద్రామాయణే ఆదికావ్యే వాల్మీకీయే
చతుర్వింశత్ సహస్రికాయాం సంహితాయామ్
శ్రీమత్సుందరకాండే చతుష్షష్టితమస్సర్గః||

Thus ends the Sarga sixty four of Sundarakanda in Ramayana , the first poem ever composed in Sanskrit by the first poet sage Valmiki ||
